Safonique & Environmental Sustainability
When it comes to honoring women entrepreneurs, Patricia Boswell, creator of Safonique laundry detergent, is the natural choice. Over a decade ago, this busy wife and mother set out to create a powdered detergent for baby clothes. Safonique soon blossomed into a stain fighting liquid detergent, gentle enough for the whole family – and the environment.

Boswell’s all-natural, hypoallergenic Safonique laundry detergent, competing against household giants such as Procter and Gamble, is now available at select Wal-Mart locations and various supermarkets in the Eastern US.

However, creating a green product and contending against established brands wasn’t enough for Boswell. She valued not only an environmentally friendly liquid product, but also sustainable packaging. And people are taking notice. Boswell was recently named chairperson of the Sustainable Business Incubator, of Fairleigh Dickinson University (Madison, NJ), which supports companies in their efforts to enact and conduct sustainable practices.

Patricia Boswell was also appointed to the Wal-Mart's Sustainable Packaging Team, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart’s Sustainable Value Networks who research and encourage sustainable guidelines for the entire Wal-Mart organization.

September 22, 2009 will mark the 27th American Business Women’s Day. Congress established this day in 1982 as an opportunity for all Americans to recognize the important contributions made by more than 57 million working American women.

This year, add Patricia Boswell to your list of honorees. More than just a businesswoman, she has successfully established herself at the forefront of green, sustainable entrepreneurs.
